We will need to move away from using Duelyst assets in the near future. The biggest barrier to this is Art, followed by IP and other lore related things.
Currently we are leaning in the direction of using Static Images on bases like in Card Hunter, or table top D&D, as they are the easiest / cheapest to implement. And more importantly we want to try and stick to works that take 6 hours or less since we need a lot.
Stage one we are using copied assets, stage two we will need lots of concept art and filler, and eventually way down the line said concepts/filler will need to be turned into a professional/unified style.
While many of us love the pixel art we want to move away from it because it is to polarizing, because there are as many people that hate it as there are that love it. Where as more standard art no one has an active problem with. While pixel art does have a polarizing nature, we also do not want to restrict our artists, or turn away the dedicated pixel artists. Ultimately this choice comes down to the contributing artists.

FAQ
What art style? We want to move away from pixel art, and we are leaning towards static images on bases. As for the aesthetic? Still a bit up in the air, we have a little bit of lore for guidance, but artists that actually make art get the biggest say in the aesthetic. As for making it uniform, for now we just want art, we will worry later about making it all match.
Pixel/Non pixel are all fine. We will mix them early on, and later on we may intentionally go for a mash up style.
Static images are fine, and may be preferred. Units need to be drawn side on, or at least have a very distinct right/left.
If you are doing a sprite sheet they all need to be the same size.
Canvas of size 150 is fine. But the minions typically need to be smaller, about 90x90.
If you are doing animations please do not use more frames than what would take to animate .5 seconds in game, roughly try to keep it under 10 frames.
Please make your own thread for your art here on the art part of the forums so it can be found/linked easily.
All work needs be be under creative commons. github.com/Duelers/Art-Resources-New-Game- <-- readme here has all the details.
