A sorely underused mechanic. This may not actually apply to generic ranged units, although that is a possibility as well.
Things like range three spells (based on your general) and what not. Thoughts? Concerns?

I think this along with conditions is an excellent way to keep the burn-style around without it detracting from it being a board based game.

I think the general ranged units should have a range between 2 and 4 tiles. In this way the postion of the units in the vertical axis is not particularly important while horizontal positioning is key. This is going to be in contrast with blast units in which the horizontal positioning is less relevant than the vertical one.
