Initially we had said we wanted to move away from it. But we have had a lot of Pixel artists come forward. Pixel is still on the table if that is what we want to do. Ultimately this is the artists decision!

If I understand the situation correctly one of the main reason why pixel art was divisive is that it was really different from the trailers art style and the concept art (which were in a comic-book style). So a potential fan was captured by the comic-book style trailers but when he downloaded the game he was met with pixel art.
I assume that the core of the artist in this project are core duelyst fans which it means that at the very least they tolerate pixel art. If we have the necessary expertise within the artists involved in this project, I think the option to make the game completely pixel art (both backgrounds/avatars/units...) should be considered.

The biggest thing is there are just a lot of people that just strait up hate pixel art. While many of us love it, just as many hate it. Compared to more standard art that no one feel real strongly about in either direction. Basically in able to capture the widest possible audience avoiding polarizing issues is the best bet.
That being said, the majority of our playerbase is going to be older fans / pixel art fans. So if that is what the bulk of our artists want to do, or are able to do, than Pixel it is.
As for all or some kind of mix, I think that again comes down to our talent. I would lean towards some of the higher quality smoother pixel art at least for non in game stuff if we wanted to go all out though.
